Debbie Shaffer

Hello My Name Is

Debbie Shaffer
Mrs. Shaffer

This is my 23rd year of teaching.  I teach 7th and 8th grade Social Studies.

Social Studies has been my passion for many years.  I feel that knowing events from history, understanding the causes, effects and outcomes of those events is so very important.  I want my students to know and appreciate the past so that they will better understand and appreciate the future.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Ottawa University.  Before becoming a teacher I worked in radio.  After a time, I received my Elementary Education Certification from Pittsburg State University.  In 2006 I received my Master’s Degree in American History.  Several years ago I was selected as Kansas History Teacher of the Year.

My husband, John, and I have two children who are Parsons High School graduates.  Our daughter, Stacia and her husband, Luke, along with their two children live in Joplin.  Our son, Trevor and his wife, Jennifer live in Pittsburg and have a very young daughter.  Yes, that makes me a very proud grandma (Mimi).

Some of my hobbies include shopping, traveling and exercising.  I also enjoy taking our classic cars to car shows and cruises.  John has a 57 Chevy Bel Air.  I have a 67 Chevelle.
