Mrs. Piva

Mrs. Piva

Hello! My name is Michell Piva. I teach all sections of 6th grade Earth and Space Science at Parsons Middle School. I also teach some of the 7th grade Physical and Chemical Science classes.

Most of my experience in educating students has been at the elementary level here in Parsons. I taught third grade for 17 years at Garfield Elementary!  Since I’m always looking for ways to challenge my brain, AND since I have a passion for investigating all the phenomena in our world, I decided to make a change to teaching science at Parsons Middle School!

I have lived in Kansas my entire life. I grew up in a rural community and attended the same school district K-12 grades. Can you believe my graduating class only had 12 students?! After high school I attended Emporia State University where I earned my first Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After working for a few years in the banking industry, getting married, and starting a family, I decided to return to college and earned another Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Emporia State. I’m so very happy I decided to go back to school to be a teacher…I have loved almost every minute of teaching! In fact, I love teaching so much that I earned a Master’s degree in United States history from Pittsburg State University and earned my National Board Certification in 2007. I told you I’m always looking for ways to challenge my brain!

My husband’s name is Scott, and we have four amazing daughters. Two of the daughters are married so we also have a granddaughter and three grandsons! In my free time I love to spend time with my family…especially if we are shopping or eating. I enjoy watching Royals games, and I take lots of walks with my dog, Ellie.
